Workplace Mediation and Conflict Resolution Skills (training for managers and team leaders)

AIM

This two day course aims to impart knowledge about the way in which the mediation process operates and to help participants to develop the necessary skills and confidence to play their part in applying it effectively to early-stage disputes in the workplace. They will also learn to recognise when such conflict is – or becomes – beyond their skills to resolve and needs to be passed on to a qualified external mediator.

OBJECTIVES

For participants:

  • To explore the concept and many facets of conflict, and to recognise when it is occurring within the workplace.
  • To understand the aims and philosophy of mediation.
  • To recognise, appreciate and be able to promote its benefits.
  • To identify and develop the skills that a mediator needs in order to enter into and manage the processes involved.
  • To learn the structure and process of a mediation.
  • To construct and maintain a safe environment for those involved in the conflict.
  • To be clear about when a conflict is (or becomes) too serious or entrenched for an in-house mediator to manage safely or effectively.

For Course Tutors

  • To help participants to achieve the above by offering them a supportive learning environment in which they can acquire knowledge, develop and practice appropriate skills, and receive personal and confidential feedback on their performance.
  • To agree a development plan for each participant which will enable them to continue to enhance their knowledge and skills back in the workplace.
