Mediation is a voluntary and confidential process in which the Mediators help people in dispute to work together to solve their problems. The solution is negotiated, agreed and owned by those people, who then become responsible for managing it themselves.
What Mediation Does
It breaks the vicious circle of accusation and hostility
It uncovers common interests and mutual hopes
It discovers a wider range of options
It allows people to take responsibility for their own decisions
What Mediation Does Not Do
It does not try to find out who is right and who is wrong
It does not apportion blame
It does not take-over the problem
How Does Mediation Work?
..Help to turn a two-way fight to the death into a three-way search for a solution (Edward de Bono)
A Mediator will meet separately with each party to the dispute and listen to the problem from each point of view. Providing that he or she feels that the problem is appropriate for mediation and that both people genuinely want a resolution, then a joint meeting between them will be arranged.
At that meeting the parties will be encouraged to share their views, feelings, wishes and suggestions and the Mediator will support them in reaching an agreed solution to their problems. This agreement will be noted, copied to each person present and monitored over time by the Mediator
Can we help?
As specialists in Workplace Mediation we know how important it is to respond quickly when disputes arise between colleagues at work. Often these are sparked off unintentionally, but can easily become destructive to both individuals and their teams if not tackled expertly and sensitively. We offer a professional and completely confidential service which benefits from being external to the organisation and is seen by staff to be completely unbiased and objective.
We also provide a variety of in- house training courses to ensure that Line Managers and others are equipped with the skills they need both to prevent disputes or, if they should arise, to tackle them effectively in their early stages.
